Sunday 7th September: 1 Buzzard over, Willow Tit and Chiff Chaff calling. Approx 20 House Martins & Swallows flying south. Green Woodpecker, Jays on ground collecting acorns. Mixed tit flock including Long-tailed Tits, Blue Tits etc. MT
Sunday 17th August: Great-crested Grebe with 2 juvenile (2nd brood), Mapp Res, 4 Pochard (American Adventure Lake), 2 Kingfisher (Osbournes Pond), Green woodpecker very vocal (Shipley Hill), 20+ Swallows (Bell Lane), 20+ House Martins (AA), 2 WHINCHAT (Bell Lane), Willow tit (AA), 2 Jays (Bell Lane), Tree sparrow (Riding stables), 20+ Goldfinch (Slack Lane), Bullfinch (AA). Sunday 3 August: Pair of buzzards and young buzzard circling between Mapperley and West Hallam at 9.30 and 10.00 Sunday morning. MT
Sunday 27th July: Very quiet, as you would expect. Willow tit calling in DWT Reserve. GS Woodpecker in Maperley Res Car park. MB
Tuesday 8th July: Pair of Oystercatchers flying north west Mapperley village at 08.16. MT
Sunday 29th June: 1 Grasshopper Warbler reeling next to American Adventure Car Park. 2 Common Terns at Mapperley Res & Reed Warbler at Nutbrook Pond, (Next to NCB Pits). We also had lots of 7 Spot Burnet Moths in the grassland plus a Brown Argus butterfly at the NCB pits. At the bottom end of Mapperley Res is the largest patch of Meadow Cranesbill I have ever seen. Sunday 22 June: At least 1 Spotted Flycatcher on Shipley Hill. (First record of year). Also 2 Nuthatches & a Dunnock with a juvenile. On Mapperley Res were 2 Common terns & 2 Curlew were seen flying over Bell Lane. MB,RW
Sunday 18 May: Two Hobbys and a Common Buzzard over Flat Meadow Farm.RW
Sunday 11 May: First report of a Cuckoo, seen at Straws Bridge.
Tuesday 6 May:Highlights. - 2 Common terns, Swifts + Garden warbler at the American Adventure. Canada geese with 5 chicks at Mapperley Res. 1 Reed warbler & Grasshoper warbler at Nutbrook Pond ( This is the reedbed below the NCB lagoons on the Slack Lane side).
Also 1 Peacock & 3 Speckled Wood butterflies. MB
Saturday 3 May: 3 Linnets (Slack Lane), Tree sparrow (Lodge Farm Riding Stables), Grasshopper warbler (American Adventure Car Park). Also at least 1, maybe 2 Grasshopper Warblers between Pauls Arm & Shipley Hill in the rough grassland. 2 Common terns (Island on American Adventure Lake), Nuthatch & Treecreeper (Shipley Hill), Little owl (Flatmeadow Farm). Curlew (heard calling in fields west of John Wood/Mapperley).MB
Sunday 27 April: 2 Common tern (AA), Grasshopper warbler (NCB lagoons/Nutbrook area), Lesser whitethroat (Bell Lane), Whitethroat (Good numbers), Blackcap (good numbers). MB,RW.
Sunday 20 April: Highlights - 20+ Swallows, 4+ Sandmartin at Mapperley Res, 1 Grasshopper Warbler in scrub American Adventure car park, 3 Great-spotted Woodpeckers disputing teritory by Coppice Pond.
